    Goodyear 400:

It is hard to believe that we already have seven completed races this season, as the NASCAR Cup Series drivers stay near the Atlantic Ocean for the third straight week and head to Darlington, SC for the Goodyear 400. Darlington, located in the northeast corner of the Palmetto State, is home to two Cup Series races per year, with the second one as the first race of the playoffs on August 31.

For now, though, this is the eighth race of the season and we’re back to a bigger track this week after last week’s race at Martinsville.

    2025 NASCAR Cup Series Standings

No change at the top heading into this week, as William Byron is still pacing the field with 259 points, but his lead did shrink after finishing 22nd in last week’s Cook Out 400. Kyle Larson had his fourth top-five finish of the season and sits just 16 points behind Byron. He’s being chased by Chase, as Chase Elliott has 227 points after his second top-five finish of the year. Christopher Bell, who added a second-place finish to his three wins from earlier this year, is now tied for fourth with Alex Bowman, who was 27th last week.

The win at Martinsville went to Denny Hamlin, who was fifth at Homestead-Miami and won Stage 2 and also had a runner-up finish at Phoenix, so he appears to be in mid-season form now. Tyler Reddick, Bubba Wallace, Joey Logano, and Ryan Blaney fill out the top 10.

    Goodyear 400 Winners

As mentioned, the “Lady In Black” is a twice-a-year stop for the Cup Series, so we have plenty of track data to utilize this weekend. It could be Hamlin’s week yet again, as he has four wins here and 13 total top-five finishes out of 25 starts. Erik Jones, Martin Truex Jr., and Brad Keselowski are the only other active multiple winners.

Chase Briscoe, Larson, Kyle Busch, Byron, and Logano all have wins in their careers here. Keselowski’s second career Darlington win came in this race last year. Byron won two years ago, with Logano in 2022 and Truex in 2021. Hamlin won the spring race back in 2020 when NASCAR ran back-to-back races in the span of four days at the track during COVID.

Hamlin’s most recent win was the playoff race in 2021. Briscoe is the reigning champ in that event, with Larson, Jones, and Hamlin the three previous years.
