Many bettors place futures wagers before a sport season with dreams of a big payout at the end of a championship run. Or, at least they hope they'll have the opportunity to hedge a ticket and lock in a profit.

One bettor in Colorado at BetMGM is in this exact situation, having placed a $50 wager in April on the Houston Astros to beat the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series at 2500-1 odds. The bettor stands to win $125,000 if the Astros are victorious.

The Astros are undefeated so far in this postseason and entered as the No. 1 seed in the American League, while the Phillies barely got in as the No. 6 seed. Philadelphia has gone the long route to the Fall Classic, having to beat the  St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves and then the San Diego Padres.

Houston is a -185 favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook to win the World Series, with Philadelphia as a 160 underdog.

In a press release, the bettor said, "It's been surreal living and dying with the Phillies from April all the way through Philtober. Shoutout to the Astros for taking care of business, and to the Dodgers for choking as usual."

He also noted "I'm not hedging."

Here's hoping he won't regret that decision.

The 2022 World Series begins on Friday, Oct. 28 at 8:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
