MLB value plays for Monday, May 29

Greg Peterson posts his daily handicapped MLB lines for every game every day. Based on his lines vs. the actual lines, here is where Peterson sees value on today’s menu. Peterson also does a daily podcast, The Baseball Betting Show, on which he breaks down every game every day.

Pirates vs. Giants Total 8.5. Greg’s Total 6.8.

The Pirates enter Monday having scored three runs or fewer in 19 of their last 24 games. They face Anthony DeSclafani, who leads qualifying National League pitchers in the fewest walks per nine innings. The Giants have also had a tougher time scoring at home, averaging five runs per game on the road compared to just four runs per game at home.

Angels vs. White Sox Total 8.5. Greg’s Total 9.2.

The White Sox have the second-worst bullpen ERA in the league at 5.17. Starter Michael Kopech posts a 4.24 ERA with a 5.64 FIP, allowing 1.9 home runs and 4.5 walks per nine innings. Angels starter Griffin Canning has a 4.95 ERA with 7.4 strikeouts and 3.5 walks per nine innings.

Royals vs. Cardinals Total 10. Greg’s Total 9.2.

The Royals are last in the league in on-base percentage and last in runs per game on the road with 3.4. The bulk pitcher for the Royals after opener Josh Staumont is likely to be Mike Mayers, who has a 4.03 ERA with 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings since the start of the 2020 season.
