However, all of my picks will be featured in this daily column, which will combine my NBA best bets and NBA player props. NBA Best Bets Today – April 14
Phoenix Suns at Minnesota Timberwolves – 3:00 pm ET
This is one of the only games of the day with something at stake for both teams. So, you can expect this to be played at a relatively high level. But I’m not sure I see this game being all that low in scoring. The Timberwolves might be first in the league in adjusted defensive rating, but they have played four games in a row in which at least 215 points were scored. And having Karl-Anthony Towns back will only make Minnesota’s defense easier for Phoenix to score on. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves should have no trouble turning in a relatively big offensive day against the Suns and their mediocre defense. With that in mind, I’m taking the Over on this game. However, I am paying a small premium to get it at a lower number. I missed the total I originally wanted and feel better about laying some juice to play it there.
Bet: Over 214.5 (-135 – 2 units)
Houston Rockets at Los Angeles Clippers – 3:00 pm ET
The Rockets don’t have anything to play for today, but they’re a prideful team and won’t be sitting all of their key pieces. Sure, Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks will be joining Alperen Sengun on the bench in this game. But Jalen Green, Amen Thompson and Jabari Smith Jr. will all be out there. Meanwhile, Kawhi Leonard is out for the Clippers in this one, and James Harden is listed as questionable. But there’s no reason for Los Angeles to push Harden here, as there’s nothing the team can do to get out of the 4 vs. 5 matchup. That said, even the Clippers starters that do play in this game will likely be looking at very limited minutes. That makes it hard not to like the road team. Ime Udoka is one of the most competitive coaches in the league, and he’ll want to head into the offseason with a win.
Bet: Rockets ML (-138 – 1.5 units)
NBA Player Props Today – April 14
Brooklyn Nets at Philadelphia 76ers – 12:30 pm ET
The Sixers absolutely need to win today, so they won’t be resting any starters. However, Joel Embiid’s status for this game is in question. The star tweaked the knee that caused him to miss most of this season, and Philadelphia is supposed to be reevaluating him today. But even if he’s out there, one would think Tyrese Maxey would handle a bigger load in this game. The Nets won’t be playing for anything today, and the team struggles to defend the perimeter on a good day. That should mean that Maxey, who is averaging 24.0 points per game in two games against the Nets, will be in for a special scoring performance. Maxey also averaged 26.1 points per game when playing at home, so I’m playing him to go Over 22.5. I’m also playing him to have at least 30.
Bet: Maxey Over 22.5 Points (-125 – 1.5 units) & Maxey Alt Points 30+ (+310 – 0.5 units)
