The Bengals had four punts and a turnover on downs on their final five possessions, while the Rams got a Kupp touchdown on a 15-play, 79-yard drive to win the game. Super Bowl 56 marked the first time since Super Bowl XLIII in 2009 where the point spread came into play, as the team that won the game failed to cover. This was the fourth straight Super Bowl to go under the total.

Super Bowl LV MVP: Tom Brady
Tom Brady won his fifth Super Bowl MVP and seventh championship overall playing at home at Raymond James Stadium in Super Bowl 55. The Buccaneers’ defense dominated and held the Chiefs to just nine points and 350 yards in front of a crowd of just under 25,000 people with COVID restrictions still in place. The Chiefs failed to be the first repeat champion since the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVIII (2004) and XXXIX (2005).

The Chiefs scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to erase a 20-10 deficit to win their second Super Bowl in franchise history. In Super Bowl 54, the Chiefs scored those three fourth-quarter touchdowns in the span of 5:01, conjuring up memories of how Kyle Shanahan got way too conservative in Super Bowl LI when Tom Brady and the Patriots erased a 28-3 deficit against the Falcons when Shanahan was the offensive coordinator in Atlanta.

Super Bowl LIII MVP: Julian Edelman
Despite the third-highest total in Super Bowl history, this game was a snoozer, as the Patriots won 13-3 and Edelman became the first wide receiver since Santonio Holmes (Super Bowl XLIII in 2009) to win the MVP with 10 catches for 141 yards. This was a 3-3 game through 3.5 quarters, but the Patriots scored the first touchdown with seven minutes left and added an insurance field goal with 1:12 to play.

Super Bowl LII MVP: Nick Foles
This game is best remembered for the “Philly Special”, a Foles receiving touchdown just before halftime to give the Eagles a 22-12 lead. The Patriots did take a 33-32 lead in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles scored the game’s final nine points to win the franchise’s first Lombardi Trophy. This all-out shootout featured 1,151 yards of offense and is the second highest-scoring Super Bowl ever behind Super Bowl XXIX when the 49ers beat the Chargers 49-26.
