The Godfather checked in this week from Montana.
Brent Musburger is dialed in on March Madness these days.
Last time we talked, he had just placed a futures bet on Alabama (currently +1000 at Circa).
Since then, two more teams have caught his eye: St. John’s (+2800) and Houston (+625).
“Junk-yard dogs,” Brent called them, putting a premium on experience. He does have concerns about what happens when St. John’s gets to tournament play. “They could run into a game where the referees call it tight.”
He pointed me to an ESPN story that eliminated 356 Division I teams from title contention, leaving eight – including three of Brent’s favorites. The others: Auburn (+350), Duke (+360), Florida (+1000), Iowa State (+2200) and Tennessee (+1800).

Week 3 selections for the Circa College Hoops Challenge are due tonight at 10 Pacific as 15 contestants make 5 picks apiece on sides or totals for Saturday’s menu.
Last week, the handicappers went a combined 41-28-1 (58.6 percent) — minus Three-Man Weave’s Jim Root, who was MIA. Through two weeks, the contestants are 81-61-2 (56.6 percent). Not a bad start, based on previous contests. >Standings.
